Mathemagician!!!

Amazing how fast he is with numbers!!  Actually showed this to my classes and gave them calculators to follow and it really captivated them.  If you haven't seen Ted Talks,  it is worth checking out.  (Not just math topics....)

Must watch below.....all my students said that it was set up and would not believe what he does is true.....

  1. Laura, I saw this post, and thought of you. It deals with how students solve math problems and some of the issues they encounter in their approach to solving problems. http://raine6.blogspot.ca/2013/02/a-digital-math-story.html#.UR77FlqQc1l

  2. Laura I really enjoyed both videos you posted. Especially the first one because I can see how you can get a class involved in participating with some of his calculations. It could also help students realize that they can try to challenge themsleves to do math problems like Keith Barry did with out using a calculator. Obviously they would start off with smaller calculations that will take time and lots of practice but at least Keith Barry's performance shows them that it is possible.

    1. I know that he has a book that has shortcuts you can learn for large calculations using patterns in math.
